My Christmas This Year

December 27th, 2011

Christmas is indeed one joyful holiday that we celebrate with our family, friends and all our loved ones. I must say that my Christmas this year was one of the most memorable that I had. Well, we were complete as family – my dad, mom and my three siblings.

My mom and dad separated since I was a 5 years old and ever since, we either celebrate holidays with mom OR dad but never the two of them together in one room. We get used to this kind of set up but of course there’s still a part of us wishing that we could be complete as family even for a day. Well, that wish came true last Christmas when my dad and mom surprised the three of us. We thought mom was abroad for the holidays so we even sent some of our presents for mom in advance. However, on Christmas Eve, we were so surprised and happy to see mom in our doorstep while dad was preparing the foods.

I was really happy and glad that after so many years, we finally spent Christmas together. What happened was indeed a moment that I will treasure forever.

What Are Peoples Experiences of Canal Boat Holidays?

December 21st, 2011

Dale - enjoy a boating holidays around Severn and Avon Ring only £ ...I am looking at the possibility of a Uk holiday next year and wonder What are people’s experiences of canal boat holidays? Can any people let me know that they had a good time on them and what are the things to look out for when booking one. Are some areas better than others and indeed are some operators better than others. I notice that there are some nationally recognised names offering holidays in some lovely parts of the country, but I also wonder if locally based operators can offer anything – being more familiar with the areas they operate in and being able to offer more detailed advice. What has been other holidaymakers’ experience of this type of vacation I wonder? I am keen to try a boating holiday next summer and would welcome some reviews and information from holiday makers who have been on boating holidays in Britain.,

Never Grows Up

September 23rd, 2011

Peter Pan would always remain in our hearts as one of the best loved characters in children’s stories. It pays to understand that he has made people excited with all his adventures in Neverland and has always made our day when he outdmsrtsCaptain Hook. There are so many things that are Peter Pan-inspired and some of them are peter pan costumes, even clothing and school supplies. If you have attended children parties, there have been birthdays that have the theme as Peter Pan and you could see cakes, cupcakes, balloons, plates, hats, give aways and banners with his face. We all love him and also other characters in the story like Tinkerbell, the lost boys, Wendy and even Hook and his pirates. They give us joy and also remind us that when times of trouble, think of a happy thought and everything would turn out fine. What’s your favorite children’s story?

The Origin of Fresh Wreaths

September 10th, 2011

Fresh wreaths are a peaceful sight to behold as they are composed of the most ancient symbol of beauty known to man, flowers. The evergreen background complements the bright red or white color of the most commonly chosen flowers and the colors of the added decorations. The concept of hanging fresh wreaths before one’s door around the Christmas season sprung from the symbolism of the wreath; the evergreen or everlasting circle of life as part of the endless cycle of God. The symbolism is closely tied with the Christian community as the wreath has become the most prominent symbol of Jesus Christ’s arrival.

Although fresh wreaths are associated with Christians, it was originally a pagan concept. The pagans designed their wreaths with evergreen and lit candles in the center of the wreath to symbolize the life circle. The circle represented the four seasons and the evergreen represented life that bloomed through all the seasons all surrounding the light of mother nature. This and the initial concept of the Christian usage of the wreath came around the same time, but were of different source. The Christian wreaths were modeled from the Greek and Roman tradition of wearing wreaths to represent the honor, status and the occupation of the individual. The symbol gained even greater strength with the event of Jesus’s crucifixion with a wreath of thorns on his head. To honor Jesus’ noble sacrifice and to rejoice his everlasting blessing, the Christian tradition adopted the use of a wreath created with flowers and evergreens to represent Jesus’ blessing to the entire mankind.

Even though wreaths are mostly associated with Christian traditions, the usage of fresh wreaths are pretty popular among women and young girls as headdress since the symbolism of the wreath applies even as a decorative item, with the flower, the symbol of beauty at its core, it is indeed well suited to be worn as a dress accessory. When worn by a bride, the symbolism of the wreath still stands firm as it then references the purity and innocence of the bride and symbolizes unity. The wreath is very mysterious as it has a huge variety of symbolisms.

The origin of the Christian tradition of hanging fresh wreaths on their doors is sometimes claimed to have been instantiated by Johann Hinrich Wichem in 1983. He used a cart wheel wreath to teach young children the meaning of Christmas. The circle would represent God who is eternal and has neither end nor any beginning. This was thought to have been the first event which sparked the use of wreaths to celebrate the coming of Jesus. The wreath was later modified to be fashioned from evergreens which gave a new meaning to the wreath in that it would now represent Jesus Christ’s arrival as a gift to humanity and would depict his noble sacrifice and honor him for his deed. This is the symbolism of the fresh wreath and the reason of its profound importance in the Christian faith and among the practitioners of the Christian religion.
